Guidelines and Rules
Both OMC members and non-members can enter their students in the competition. You may enter a student for the OMC Awards Competition, regardless of the rating he/she received at the NFMC Junior Festival. If the student did NOT participate at district Junior festival, you CAN enter them in this event.  Event is for PIANO SOLO, Elementary 1 and above. 

Eligibility
PIANO students (juniors through age 18), Solo Elementary I and higher.

Deadline
Teachers must complete and submit their students' applications ONLINE by the deadline: Friday, March 14, 2025, by 11:59 PM.   (Be sure to submit VIDEOs as YouTube links or email to MP4 to Orlando Music Club:  [email protected])

Divisions
Students will be divided into divisions.  Only one entry per student.
There must be at least three entrants in each division listed below:


Elementary A and Elementary B (recording due March 14)
Elementary competitions is a 100% Virtual Competition.
Winners will be decided by video submissions.  
SHOWCASE:  Winners Elem A and B are expect to perform in person on April 6 at 1:30PM
Those not able to perform at the Showcase are INELIGIBLE for the cash award.

      Elementary A: Elem. I -- Elem II 

      Elementary B: Elem III -- Elem IV


Intermediate A and Intermediate B (in-person April 6)
In-Person Competition Medium and Above
The in-person competition is April 6 at 2:00PM

      Intermediate A: Medium -- Mod Diff I

      Intermediate B: Mod Diff II -- Mod Diff III

Advanced A and Advanced B (in-person April 6)

      Advanced A: Diff I -- Very Diff I

     Advanced B: Very Diff II -- Mus Adv. II


Repertoire / Music Score Requirements

Students must perform ONE PIECE for the Awards Competition. 
MEMORIZATION is required for all divisions.
The repertoire for competition must be an original 
“Required solo piece” selected from the NFMC 2024-2028 Bulletin.

If you purchased sheet music online, include the receipt confirmation or the name
associated with the purchase, as outlined on page xiii of the NFMC Bulletin’s Festivals General Rules under "Scores—Hard copy, Digital, or Hand-copied." Please make arrangements for this in advance with the committee to avoid potential disqualification.


There will be no repertoire changes allowed after registration.

Elementary A and B Virtual Competition Instructions
Applicants must submit a video recording*  and upload a PDF of their music from the original books through the online application. The quality of the instrument, recording, or location will not be a factor in judging. Winners will be invited to perform in person and receive their placements and awards on April 6th at 1:30 PM.

Video Submission Guidelines (YouTube*)
  • A full size 88-key piano (acoustic or digital) should be used to perform on. The student’s head, arms, hands, and feet, and three pedals are to be visible at all times.
  • You may use a cell phone, tablet, video camera or computer to record the performance. Good sound and video quality are important, so please use the best device available.
  • Students are dressed in "smart casual" / appropriate attire.
  • Hold the camera in the HORIZONTAL/landscape position so that the video is the
    largest size possible.
  • Student/helper would announce their name, division, and the title of the piece
    using the following script:
    “Hello, this is _________________. (entrant’s name)

    Division: ________________. (such as Elementary A or Elementary B)
    The piece she/he will perform is _______________.”
  • The video must be made in one continuous take and from one fixed, stable camera
    angle/location. No stopping of the recording between pieces. No zooming in and out. No editing, no splicing, and no manipulation of the recording in any way. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
  • Upload your video to YouTube.com with visibility set to "unlisted".
  • Label the uploaded video file with the student's name, name of the composer, and
    title of piece.
  • Submit your YouTube video link by March 14, 2025, 11:59 pm EST on this page:
    "https://www.orlandomusicclub.org/awards2025online.html".  Late video submissions will not be accepted.
  • Once a video is submitted, no substitutions or additional videos will be allowed

Intermediate and Advanced A and B In-Person Competition Instructions
The judges must be provided with an ORIGINAL score with the measures numbered.
NO photocopies allowed.
Students should dress in "smart casual" / appropriate attire. 
No food, gum or drinks are allowed in the Competition.

Awards
Awards will be given for First, Second, and Third place in each division, with the possibility of Honorable Mentions. Honorable Mention recipients will receive a ribbon.  Judges reserve the right to withhold awards or honorable mentions if no performance meets the “standard of excellence.” All decisions made by the judges are final. Teachers will receive a set of the judges’ rating sheets for later distribution to the student.  Those not able to perform at the Showcase are INELIGIBLE for the cash award.

In-Person Competition Rules for Attendees
NO videotaping or photography allowed during the in-person Awards Competition.
No applause.
Cell phones must be off.

No teacher, parent or entrant may confer with the Judges, who are instructed likewise.
Please: Parents
must be in attendance with their child at all times.

Volunteers

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS: TEACHERS, PARENT, HS STUDENTS! Please provide a specific volunteer name, phone number and we will let you know how they can help. Include the volunteer’s name and contact information with your application form.

We need help before the competition to SET UP, and at the WELCOME DESK (front check-in table, to keep papers organized), and then after the competition, to CLEAN UP.

​High School students can earn Community Service Hours. (Check with your HS office for assistance.)
